The procedure of court
marriage in 8 steps
STEP 1: The first step is to give a notice of marriage to the marriage
officer. The couple needs to submit the notice to the marriage officer.
STEP 2: Marriage Officer records the notice and sends a copy of it to
the Marriage Officer of the District.
STEP 3: There is a period of 30 days is given for any person to raise
any objections to the intended marriage.
STEP 4: From the date of receipt of any objections, the Marriage
Officer should inquire into it within 30 days.
STEP 5: If the objections are found valid, the intended marriage may
appeal to the District Court, whose decision shall be binding.
STEP 6: In case, there is no objection or the objection is rejected,
the parties with 3 witnesses sign in presence of the Marriage Officer.
Witnesses are needed to declare that they are unmarried and are not related
within prohibited degrees.
STEP 7: The marriage is solemnized in any form in which a declaration
by each party to the effect. Along with this, 3 witnesses are needed.
STEP 8: The solemnization should be finished within 3 months from the
date of the notice, failing which the notice lapses and a new notice
requirement to be issued.
